NAVAL STAFF CLERK, CLASS IV.—VACANCIES.<br />

Applications are invited from Naval Staff Clerks for appointment to the<br />

following Class IV. positions—-salary £220-£310 p.a. :—<br />

(1) <strong>Navy</strong> Office, Melbourne, Accounts Branch—<br />

Applicants must have a general knowledge of regulations and instructions<br />

affecting-the passing of accounts for payment, including<br />

Naval Financial and Account Regulations; also Public Service,<br />

Naval Reserve, and Establishment Regulations; and experience<br />

in the duties of Accounts Officers.<br />

(2) Naval Staff Office, Port Melbourne—<br />

Applicants must have a good knowledge of Naval Financial and<br />

Naval Reserve Regulations and experience of the duties of Accounts<br />

Officer.<br />

Applications should be forwarded through the Head of Branch so as to<br />

reach the Secretary, <strong>Navy</strong> Office, Melbourne, not later than Friday, 7th April,<br />

CIVIL OFFICERS (OFFICE STAFF)—GRANT OF SICK LEAVE<br />

IN BROKEN PERIODS.<br />

In connexion with the calculation of sick leave, when granted in broken<br />

periods to Civil Officers (Office Staff), it has been decided that the minimum<br />

period of sick leave granted should, in future, be a half-day, and a half-day<br />

should be half the usual working day.<br />

2. Absences owing to sickness of less duration than a half-day are not to be<br />

covered by the grant of short (casual) leave, but should be recorded, and when<br />

they amount to a half-day within a period during which there is no variation<br />

in the rate of pay, should be granted as a half-day. Where the number of<br />

hours so recorded exceed a half-day, but do not amount to a day, and a halfday's<br />

sick leave on that account is granted, the excess should be noted for<br />

inclusion with future short periods of absence to make up half a day in a<br />

period in which there is no variation in the rate of pay.<br />

3. Absence on Saturday or other weekly half-holiday for the full working<br />

period should be counted as a day, but absence for a lesser period on such day<br />

should be recorded and dealt with as shown in the preceding paragraph.<br />

4. This decision also applies to Temporary Officers of the Office Staff who<br />

are eligible for the grant of sick leave.<br />

5. In the case of officers stationed at <strong>Navy</strong> Office or surrounding offices,<br />

Heads of Branches, &c, will not record such absences, but should report same<br />

in writing to the Secretary.<br />
