NAVAL STAFF CLERK, CLASS IV.—VACANCIES.
Applications are invited from Naval Staff Clerks for appointment to the
following Class IV. positions—-salary £220-£310 p.a. :—
(1) Navy Office, Melbourne, Accounts Branch—
Applicants must have a general knowledge of regulations and instructions
affecting-the passing of accounts for payment, including
Naval Financial and Account Regulations; also Public Service,
Naval Reserve, and Establishment Regulations; and experience
in the duties of Accounts Officers.
(2) Naval Staff Office, Port Melbourne—
Applicants must have a good knowledge of Naval Financial and
Naval Reserve Regulations and experience of the duties of Accounts
Officer.
Applications should be forwarded through the Head of Branch so as to
reach the Secretary, Navy Office, Melbourne, not later than Friday, 7th April,
1922.

CIVIL OFFICERS (OFFICE STAFF)—GRANT OF SICK LEAVE
IN BROKEN PERIODS.
In connexion with the calculation of sick leave, when granted in broken
periods to Civil Officers (Office Staff), it has been decided that the minimum
period of sick leave granted should, in future, be a half-day, and a half-day
should be half the usual working day.
2. Absences owing to sickness of less duration than a half-day are not to be
covered by the grant of short (casual) leave, but should be recorded, and when
they amount to a half-day within a period during which there is no variation
in the rate of pay, should be granted as a half-day. Where the number of
hours so recorded exceed a half-day, but do not amount to a day, and a halfday's
sick leave on that account is granted, the excess should be noted for
inclusion with future short periods of absence to make up half a day in a
period in which there is no variation in the rate of pay.
3. Absence on Saturday or other weekly half-holiday for the full working
period should be counted as a day, but absence for a lesser period on such day
should be recorded and dealt with as shown in the preceding paragraph.
4. This decision also applies to Temporary Officers of the Office Staff who
are eligible for the grant of sick leave.
5. In the case of officers stationed at Navy Office or surrounding offices,
Heads of Branches, &c, will not record such absences, but should report same
in writing to the Secretary.
