AMENDMENT OF NAVAL COLLEGE REGULATIONS-<br />
CADETS' FUND.<br />
The Naval College Eegulations are amended as from 1st January, 1922,<br />
as follows :—<br />
Regulation 78 is amended by omitting Sub-Regulation (1), and<br />
inserting in its stead the following :—<br />
" (1) The Cadets' Fund shall consist of a Capitation Grant<br />
of £2 per annum per capita, based upon the number of Cadet<br />
Midshipmen in the College on the 30th June of the preceding<br />
year, with a minimum grant of £200 per annum; and of any<br />
canteen rent or sum received in accordance with the provisions<br />
of these Regulations."<br />
2. Statutory Rule will be promulgated in due course.<br />

EDUCATIONAL TEST FOE ACCELERATED ADVANCEMENT TO<br />
MAN'S RATING, APRIL, 1922.—RESULTS.<br />

EXAMDfATION FOR THE RATING OF CHIEF STOkER.<br />
With reference to Appendix XV., Part I., Rating No. 47B, King's Regulations<br />
and Admiralty Instructions, attention is called to the fact that a<br />
Stoker Petty Officer must be in possession of a Certificate of Qualification<br />
to take charge of a stokehold when steaming, before being permitted to<br />
present himself for examination for the rating of Chief Stoker.<br />
2. When a Stokehold Certificate is granted to a rating, the necessary<br />
notation should be made on page 3 of Certificate of Service.<br />

R.N. OFFICERS. SPECIAL TERMS OF RETIREMENT.<br />
Information has been received by cable from the Naval Representative<br />
in London to the effect that special terms of retirement have been promulgated<br />
in Admiralty Fleet Orders. The details furnished by cable are promulgated<br />
below for the information of R.N. officers serving on loan in the<br />
R.A.N. These details are necessarily incomplete ; full particulars have been<br />
forwarded by the Naval Representative by mail, and will be promulgated<br />
when received.<br />
2. Owing to large reductions in the Fleet, &c, 1,800 Naval Officers will<br />
have to go. A large surplus of Officers exists in the following Branches :—<br />
Commissioned Ranks—<br />
Executive,<br />
Engineering,<br />
Accountant;<br />
Warrant Ranks and Commissioned Officers from Warrant Rank—<br />
Gunner,<br />
Gunner (T),<br />
Boatswain,<br />
Signal Boatswain,<br />

Writer;<br />
and in the Permanent Cruiser Sendee (Coast Guard). The surplus is not<br />
general, but is confined to Officers of particular seniority.<br />

4. The special terms are open for six months. Officers who are in a<br />
position to do so, or who have special chances in civilian life, are invited to<br />
retire on the special terms indicated, failing which retirement will be by<br />
selection. No Officer will obtain better terms by waiting.<br />
