ISSUE OF FLANNEL AND FLANNEL VESTS.
A large stock of Flannel Vests is held at Royal Edward Victualling
Yard, Sydney, and as it is necessary to restrict purchases of Flannel at the
present time to minimum requirements, Flannel Vests are to be demanded
by all Ships, until further notice, in the proportion of at least one Flannel
Vest to every three yards of Flannel demanded. The Victualling Store
Officer has been instructed to amend Ship's demands accordingly, if necessary.
2. Flannel Vests are invariably to be issued to new entries in the R.A.N,
and to all members of the R.A.N.R.
CONDEMNATIONS OF TINNED BUTTER.
With reference to Navy Order 180/1921, excessive condemnations of
Tinned Butter continue, and immediate steps are to be taken in all Ships
to prevent further losses to the Crown in this respect.
2. As fresh butter is available in quantities at most ports of call used by
H.M.A. Ships, unless very special reasons prevail, e.g., absence on detached
duty for an appreciable period, reserve stocks of Tinned Butter are to be
confined to one week's requirements for the Ship's Company, and the turnover
of this quantity should be effected prior to the expiration of six months from
the date of receipt.
t
3. Where sea-stocks of Tinned Butter are obtained, the whole sea-stock
is to be issued and consumed as early as practicable, but under no circumstances
should the issue be deferred beyond six months from date of receipt
on board.
4. The return of Tinned Butter to Royal Edward Victualling Yard is not
permissible except in the case of unforeseen circumstances beyond the control
°f the Ship concerned.
