Physical Therapist Assistant<br />

The Physical Therapist Assistant Curriculum prepares graduates <strong>to</strong> work in<br />

direct patient care settings under the supervision of physical therapists.<br />

Assistants work <strong>to</strong> improve or res<strong>to</strong>re function by alleviation or prevention<br />

of physical impairment and perform other essential activities in a physical<br />

therapy department.<br />

Course work includes normal human ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology, the<br />

consequences of disease or injury, and physical therapy treatment of a<br />

variety of patient conditions affecting humans throughout the life span.<br />

Graduates may be eligible <strong>to</strong> take the licensure examination administered by<br />

the NC Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Employment is available in<br />

general hospitals, rehabilitation centers, extended care facilities, specialty<br />

hospitals, home health agencies, private clinics, and public school systems.<br />

Fayetteville Technical <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>/<strong>Sandhills</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> Partner Program<br />

Fayetteville Technical <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> (FTCC) has entered in<strong>to</strong> a<br />

unique learning partnership with SCC <strong>to</strong> provide SCC students the<br />

opportunity <strong>to</strong> complete up <strong>to</strong> 32-33 credit hours at SCC <strong>to</strong> be used <strong>to</strong>ward<br />

completion of the 76-hour A.A.S. in Physical Therapy Assistant program.<br />

Program Prerequisites: 2 Units of Algebra (placement in<strong>to</strong> MAT-171), 1<br />

Unit of Biology, & 2 units of Chemistry.<br />

Students accepted in<strong>to</strong> this program can explore two options:<br />

1. Complete the 32-33 hours of general requirements prior <strong>to</strong><br />

application <strong>to</strong> the Physical Therapy Assistant program, or<br />

2. Complete some or all of those courses at SCC while concurrently<br />

enrolled in the FTCC program.<br />

When possible, FTCC will schedule clinical hours at a regional facility<br />

within 1 <strong>to</strong> 2 hours of the SCC campus <strong>to</strong> ensure that student commutes <strong>to</strong><br />

the FTCC campus will only be two or three days per week.
