Robert H. Dedman, Sr. Center for Business<br />

Leadership<br />

The Dedman Center for Business Leadership provides occupational training<br />

and retraining, professional development classes, employability skills<br />

training, career development, and skills upgrade training for individuals,<br />

businesses, organizations, and professionals in the community. Through its<br />

cus<strong>to</strong>mized training program and Small Business Center (SBC), the<br />

department offers consultation, counseling, and training targeted <strong>to</strong> the<br />

specific needs of a business. The department provides a number of prelicensing<br />

and certification programs in a variety of fields. Two computer labs<br />

dedicated for the department’s use allow for a broad offering of computer<br />

classes from introduc<strong>to</strong>ry subjects <strong>to</strong> more specific hardware and software<br />

<strong>to</strong>pics. The department has been designated a Career Readiness Center<br />

allowing it <strong>to</strong> offer the North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)<br />

workforce credential.<br />

Professional Development (Career Training) Programs<br />

The Dedman Center’s Professional Development Programs provide training<br />

<strong>to</strong> enhance skills and knowledge necessary <strong>to</strong> compete in <strong>to</strong>day’s workforce.<br />

Classes are offered <strong>to</strong> a wide variety of individuals seeking <strong>to</strong> improve their<br />

job marketability by learning new skills and <strong>to</strong> seasoned professionals<br />

seeking CEU credit courses <strong>to</strong> stay abreast of new business practices, <strong>to</strong> gain<br />

understanding of new technologies, or <strong>to</strong> comply with State and/or Federal<br />

licensing regulations. For the individual seeking <strong>to</strong> learn new job skills,<br />

courses are offered in areas such as Industrial Trades, Business and Office<br />

Management, Medical Careers, and Nail Technology. For the individual<br />

seeking CEU credit or recertification, courses are offered in areas such as<br />

Au<strong>to</strong>motive, Education, Real Estate, Construction, and Cosme<strong>to</strong>logy. Many<br />

special interest classes and workshops are available for those interested in<br />

lifelong learning. New classes are offered every semester. Professional<br />

Development opportunities range from one-day workshops <strong>to</strong> semester-long<br />

certification programs in both traditional and online class venues.<br />

Medical Careers/Allied Health<br />

The Professional Development Programs provide a broad scope of<br />

specialized training <strong>to</strong> meet the local demand of area health care industry<br />

providers. Included are programs and certification in areas such as Nursing<br />

Assistant (Levels I and II), Phlebo<strong>to</strong>my, EKG (Electrocardiogram<br />

Moni<strong>to</strong>ring), Medication Aide, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical<br />

Terminology and Ana<strong>to</strong>my, Geren<strong>to</strong>logy, Pharmacy Technician, and Pain<br />

Assessment.
