BIO-165 Ana<strong>to</strong>my and Physiology I 4 (3-3) FS SS<br />

This course is the first of a two-course sequence which provides a comprehensive<br />

study of the ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology of the human body. Topics include the<br />

structure, function, and interrelationship of organ systems with emphasis on the<br />

processes which maintain homeostasis. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

demonstrate an in-depth understanding of principles of ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology and<br />

their interrelationships. This course is designed for allied health and college transfer<br />

curricula. To ensure the coverage of all <strong>to</strong>pics of ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology, BIO-165<br />

and BIO-166 must be taken at the same institution. This course has been approved<br />

for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a premajor and/or<br />

elective course requirement for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. NOTE: This<br />

course DOES satisfy the general education course requirement in Natural Science<br />

Prerequisites: BIO-110, BIO-111, BIO-163, or BIO-165<br />

This course covers principles of microbiology with emphasis on microorganisms and<br />

human disease. Topics include an overview of microbiology and aspects of medical<br />

microbiology, identification and control of pathogens, disease transmission, host<br />

resistance, and immunity. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate<br />

knowledge of microorganisms and the disease process as well as aseptic and sterile<br />

techniques. This course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive<br />

Articulation Agreement as a premajor and/or elective course requirement for the<br />

A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. NOTE: This course DOES satisfy the general<br />

education course requirement in Natural Science for the A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees<br />
