RED-070 Essential Reading Skills 4 (3-2) AND<br />

Corequisites: ENG-070<br />

This course is designed <strong>to</strong> strengthen reading skills. Emphasis is placed on basic<br />

word attack skills, vocabulary, transitional words, paragraph organization, basic<br />

comprehension skills, and learning strategies. Upon completion, students should be<br />

able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in the skills required for RED-080. This course does<br />

not satisfy the developmental reading prerequisite for ENG-111 or ENG-111A. (2000<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces the world’s major religious traditions. Topics include Primal<br />

religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> identify the origins, his<strong>to</strong>ry, beliefs, and practices of the<br />

religions studied. This course has been approved for transfer under the<br />

Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies<br />

the general education course requirement in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A.S. and<br />

This course is a survey of the literature of the Hebrews with readings from the law,<br />

prophets, and the writings. Emphasis is placed on the use of literary, his<strong>to</strong>rical,<br />

archeological, and cultural analysis. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> use<br />

the <strong>to</strong>ols of critical analysis <strong>to</strong> read and understand Old Testament literature. This<br />

course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation<br />

Agreement as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A.,<br />

A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies the general education course<br />

This course is a survey of the literature of first-century Christianity with readings<br />

from the gospels, Acts, and the Pauline and pas<strong>to</strong>ral letters. Topics include the<br />

literary structure, audience, and religious perspective of the writings, as well as the<br />

his<strong>to</strong>rical and cultural context of the early Christian community. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> use the <strong>to</strong>ols of critical analysis <strong>to</strong> read and understand<br />

New Testament literature. This course has been approved for transfer under the<br />
