MTH-120 Therapeutic Massage Applications 10 (6-9-3) S<br />

Prerequisites: BIO-165, MED-120, MTH-110, PSY-150<br />

Corequisites: BIO-166, ENG-111<br />

This course provides an expanded knowledge and skill base for the massage therapist<br />

in a variety of clinical settings. Emphasis is placed on selected therapeutic<br />

approaches throughout the lifespan. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

perform entry level therapeutic massage on various populations. (2008 SP)<br />

MTH-125 Ethics of Massage 2 (2-0) SS<br />

Prerequisites: MTH-110<br />

Corequisites: BIO-271; MAT-115, MAT-140, or MAT-171<br />

This course is designed <strong>to</strong> explore issues related <strong>to</strong> the practice of massage therapy.<br />

Emphasis is placed on ethical, legal, professional, and political issues. Upon<br />

completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> discuss issues relating <strong>to</strong> the practice of<br />

massage therapy, client/therapist relationships as well as ethical issues. (2005 FA)<br />

MTH 210 Advanced Skills of Massage 8 (4-9-3) F<br />

Prerequisites: MTH-120<br />

Corequisites: COM-110; PSY-118 or BUS-152; PED-113, 117, 120, 122, 125,<br />

130, 135, 145, 154, or 217<br />

This course provides knowledge and skills in diverse body work modalities in a<br />

variety of clinical settings. Emphasis is placed on selected techniques such as<br />

Neuromuscular Therapy, Sports Massage, Soft Tissue Release, Spa Approaches,<br />

Oriental Therapies, and energy techniques. Upon completion, students should be able<br />

<strong>to</strong> perform basic skills in techniques covered. (2008 SP)<br />

MTH 220 Outcome-Based Massage 7 (4-6-3) S<br />

Prerequisites: MTH-120<br />

Corequisites: BUS-137 or BUS-230; COE-111<br />

This course provides knowledge and skills in more complex body works modalities<br />

in a variety of clinical settings. Emphasis is placed on developing advanced skills in<br />

outcome-based Massage. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> perform basic<br />

skills in techniques covered. (2008 SP)<br />

MUS Music<br />

Students who wish <strong>to</strong> enroll in the Associate in Fine Arts in Music and Music<br />

Education (A1020D) program must demonstrate the appropriate level of<br />

vocal or instrument proficiency. Non-music majors may be allowed <strong>to</strong> enroll<br />

in music theory and performance classes only after demonstrating the<br />

appropriate level of proficiency prior <strong>to</strong> registering for MUS-121, 131, 133,<br />

135, 137, 141, and 161. Students with little or no music background should<br />

enroll in MUS-111 and MUS-151.<br />

MUS-110 Music Appreciation 3 (3-0) FS SS<br />

Prerequisites: None<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course is a basic survey of the music of the Western world. Emphasis is placed<br />

on the elements of music, terminology, composers, form, and style within a his<strong>to</strong>rical<br />

perspective. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate skills in basic<br />

listening and understanding of the art of music. This course has been approved for
