This course explores the major qualities that make the South a distinct region. Topics<br />

include music, politics, literature, art, religion, race relations, and the role of social<br />

class in his<strong>to</strong>rical and contemporary contexts. Upon completion, students should be<br />

able <strong>to</strong> identify the characteristics that distinguish Southern culture. This course has<br />

been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a<br />

general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S.<br />

degrees. This course also satisfies the general education course requirement in<br />

This course provides an in-depth study of myths and legends. Topics include the<br />

varied sources of myths and their influence on the individual and society within<br />

diverse cultural contexts. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate a<br />

general familiarity with myths and a broad-based understanding of the influence of<br />

myths and legends on modern culture. This course has been approved for transfer<br />

under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies<br />

This course provides an inter-disciplinary study of the his<strong>to</strong>ry, literature, and social<br />

roles of American women from Colonial times <strong>to</strong> the present. Emphasis is placed on<br />

women's roles as reflected in American language usage, education, law, the<br />

workplace, and mainstream culture. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

identify and analyze the roles of women as reflected in various cultural forms. This<br />

course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation<br />

Agreement as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A.,<br />

A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies the general education course<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces the fundamental elements of film artistry and production.<br />

Topics include film styles, his<strong>to</strong>ry, and production techniques, as well as the social<br />

values reflected in film art. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> critically<br />

analyze the elements covered in relation <strong>to</strong> selected films. A major emphasis of the<br />

course will be discussions and reports that analyze plot and conflict, narrative styles,<br />

character development, and theme. This course has been approved for transfer under<br />

the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in
