OPH-109 Ophtha Optics & Basic Refract 2 (2-0-0) F<br />

Prerequisites: OPH-150, OPH-151<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces basic theoretical and clinical optics. Topics include interaction<br />

of light and lenses, refractive states of the eye, and principles of retinoscopy and<br />

refrac<strong>to</strong>metry. Upon completion, the student will demonstrate physical and geometric<br />

optics, and basic refrac<strong>to</strong>metry techniques. (2012 SP)<br />

OPH-110 Op Med Asst Practicum II 9 (0-0-27) S<br />

Prerequisites: OPH-106, OPH-150, OPH-151<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides additional clinical experience in ophthalmic patient care<br />

procedures. Topics include interpersonal skills with patients, work and legal ethics,<br />

confidentiality, appearance, and performance. Upon completion, the student will<br />

This course introduces the role, scope, and duties of the opthalmic assistant. Topics<br />

include medical ethics, duties of assistant, medical his<strong>to</strong>ry, basic medical<br />

terminology, and an overview of human ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate knowledge of medical his<strong>to</strong>ry taking,<br />

preliminary patient examination, basic ophthalmic equipment, and office efficiency.<br />

This course studies the normal ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology of eye and orbit. Topics<br />

include structures of the eye, functioning process of the eye and correct medical<br />

terminology of the structures and functions of the eye. Upon completion, the student<br />

should demonstrate a basic understanding and fundamental principles of ana<strong>to</strong>my and<br />

This course is designed <strong>to</strong> develop elementary keyboarding skills. Emphasis is placed<br />

on mastery of the keyboard. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate<br />
