Admission <strong>to</strong> the Respira<strong>to</strong>ry Therapy program is required before enrolling<br />

RCP-110 Intro <strong>to</strong> Respira<strong>to</strong>ry Care 4 (3-3) F<br />

Prerequisites: None<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces the respira<strong>to</strong>ry care profession. Topics include the role of the<br />

respira<strong>to</strong>ry care practitioner, medical gas administration, basic patient assessment,<br />

infection control, and medical terminology. Upon completion, students should be<br />

able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in concepts and procedures through written and<br />

RCP-111 Therapeutics/Diagnostics 5 (4-3) S<br />

This course is a continuation of RCP-110. Emphasis is placed on entry-level<br />

therapeutic and diagnostic procedures used in respira<strong>to</strong>ry care. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in concepts and procedures<br />

through written and labora<strong>to</strong>ry evaluations. This course includes introduc<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

concepts of mechanical ventilation with emphasis in non-invasive ventilation and<br />

This course covers the drugs used in the treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases.<br />

Emphasis is placed on the uses, actions, indications, administration, and hazards of<br />

pharmacological agents. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate<br />

RCP-114 Cardiopulmonary Ana<strong>to</strong>my & Physiology 3 (3-0) F<br />

This course provides a concentrated study of cardiopulmonary ana<strong>to</strong>my and<br />

physiology essential <strong>to</strong> the practice of respira<strong>to</strong>ry care. Emphasis is placed on<br />

cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, acid/base balance, and blood gas<br />

interpretation. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence<br />
