HIS-111 World Civilizations I 3 (3-0) AND<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces world his<strong>to</strong>ry from the dawn of civilization <strong>to</strong> the early<br />

modern era. Topics include Eurasian, African, American, and Greco-Roman<br />

civilizations and Christian, Islamic and Byzantine cultures. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural<br />

developments in pre-modern world civilizations. This course has been approved for<br />

transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education<br />

course in Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This<br />

course also satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral<br />

Sciences for the A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees. (1997 SU)<br />

include the cultures of Africa, Europe, India, China, Japan, and the Americas. Upon<br />

completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political, socioeconomic,<br />

and cultural developments in modern world civilizations. This course has been<br />

approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general<br />

education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S.<br />

degrees. This course also satisfies the general education course requirement in<br />

Topics include ancient Greece, Rome, and Christian institutions of the Middle Ages<br />

and the emergence of national monarchies in western Europe. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural<br />

developments in early western civilization. This course has been approved for<br />

transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education<br />

course in Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This<br />

course also satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral<br />

Topics include the religious wars, the Industrial Revolution, World Wars I and II, and<br />

the Cold War. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant<br />

political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in modern western civilization.<br />

This course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation<br />
