This course presents psychological perspectives on death and dying. Topics include<br />

the culturally diverse aspects of death and the grieving process, adjustment<br />

mechanisms, interventions, and the psychological and ethical dimensions of death<br />

and dying. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate an<br />

understanding of the psychosocial aspects of death and dying. This course satisfies<br />

the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral Sciences for the<br />

A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees ONLY. (1997 SU)<br />

PSY-150 General Psychology 3 (3-0) FS SS<br />

Prerequisites: ENG-085<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides an overview of the scientific study of human behavior. Topics<br />

include his<strong>to</strong>ry, methodology, biopsychology, sensation, perception, learning,<br />

motivation, cognition, abnormal behavior, personality theory, social psychology, and<br />

other relevant <strong>to</strong>pics. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate a<br />

basic knowledge of the science of psychology. This course has been approved for<br />

transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education<br />

course in Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This<br />

course also satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral<br />

Sciences for the A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees. (1997 SU)<br />

PSY-231 Forensic Psychology 3 (3-0) S<br />

This course introduces students <strong>to</strong> concepts which unite psychology and the legal<br />

system. Topics include defining competency, insanity, involuntary commitment as<br />

well as introducing forensic assessment techniques, such as interviewing process,<br />

specialized assessments, and collecting collateral information. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate knowledge in areas of forensic psychology:<br />

risk assessment, criminal competencies, insanity, psychopathology, and mentally<br />

disordered offenders. This course has been approved <strong>to</strong> satisfy the Comprehensive<br />

Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course<br />

requirement for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. (2004 SU)<br />

PSY-237 Social Psychology 3 (3-0) AND<br />

This course introduces the study of individual behavior within social contexts. Topics<br />

include affiliation, attitude formation and change, conformity, altruism, aggression,<br />

attribution, interpersonal attraction, and group behavior. Upon completion, students<br />

should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of social<br />

influences on behavior. This course has been approved for transfer under the<br />

Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also<br />

satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral Sciences for<br />
