Experiential Lab Hours – Credit of one semester hour is awarded<br />

for each 32 hours of "experiential labora<strong>to</strong>ry work." Experiential<br />

labora<strong>to</strong>ry work means instruction given <strong>to</strong> a student by an<br />

instruc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> increase the student's knowledge and skills without<br />

immediate student application.<br />

Faculty Directed Lab Hours – Credit of one semester hour is<br />

awarded for each 48 hours of "faculty directed labora<strong>to</strong>ry work."<br />

Faculty directed labora<strong>to</strong>ry involves structured and coordinated<br />

demonstration by an instruc<strong>to</strong>r with immediate student application.<br />

Clinical Practice Hours – Credit of one semester hour is awarded<br />

for each 48 hours of "clinical practice." Clinical practice is a<br />

structured, faculty-directed learning experience in a health sciences<br />

program which develops job proficiency. Clinical practice requires<br />

significant preparation, coordination, and scheduling by the faculty<br />

and is under the supervision of an instruc<strong>to</strong>r or precep<strong>to</strong>r who is<br />

qualified for the particular program.<br />

Cooperative Work Experience Hours – Credit of one semester<br />

hour is awarded for each 160 hours of "work experience" such as<br />

cooperative education courses. Work experience involves the<br />

development of job skills by providing the student with<br />

employment that is directly related <strong>to</strong>, and coordinated with, the<br />

educational program. Student activity in work experience is planned<br />

and coordinated by a college representative, and the employer is<br />

responsible for the control and supervision of the student on the job.<br />

Distance Learning and Hybrid – Distance learning (course<br />

delivery is 100% online) and hybrid courses (a portion of the course<br />

delivery is lecture or lab with the remaining required time <strong>to</strong> be in<br />

appropriate online activities) require that same amount of course<br />

time equivalent <strong>to</strong> the “class work” and “labora<strong>to</strong>ry work” that is<br />

expected in traditional face-<strong>to</strong>-face lecture, labora<strong>to</strong>ry, clinical, and<br />

practicum courses.<br />

Course Prerequisites and Corequisites<br />

Some course prerequisites and corequisites are specified in the statewide<br />

Combined Course Library (CCL); others are specified as local (<strong>Sandhills</strong><br />

<strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>) requirements. Students who have not completed the<br />

specified courses may satisfy prerequisites and corequisites prior <strong>to</strong> course<br />

enrollment by following one of the following procedures described in the<br />

“Academic Policies and Procedures” section of this Catalog: Credit by<br />

examination, credit for military training, advanced placement (AP) courses,<br />

academic petition/course substitution, credit for college tech prep students,<br />

course requisites waiver, or credit for experiential learning.
