This course is a survey of American his<strong>to</strong>ry from pre-his<strong>to</strong>ry through the Civil War<br />

era. Topics include the migrations <strong>to</strong> the Americas, the colonial and revolutionary<br />

periods, the development of the Republic, and the Civil War. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural<br />

developments in early American his<strong>to</strong>ry. This course has been approved for transfer<br />

under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also<br />

satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral Sciences for<br />

Topics include industrialization, immigration, the Great Depression, the major<br />

American wars, the Cold War, and social conflict. Upon completion, students should<br />

be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in<br />

American his<strong>to</strong>ry since the Civil War. This course has been approved for transfer<br />

under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Social/Behavioral Sciences for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also<br />

satisfies the general education course requirement in Social/Behavioral Sciences for<br />

This course is a study of geographical, political, economic, and social conditions<br />

existing in North Carolina from America's discovery <strong>to</strong> the present. Topics include<br />

native and immigrant backgrounds; colonial, antebellum, and Reconstruction periods;<br />

party politics; race relations; and the transition from an agrarian <strong>to</strong> an industrial<br />

economy. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> analyze significant political,<br />

socioeconomic, and cultural developments in North Carolina. This course has been<br />

approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a<br />

premajor and/or elective course requirement for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees.<br />

This course introduces Health Information Management (HIM) and its role in<br />

healthcare delivery systems. Topics include standards, regulations and initiatives;<br />

payment and reimbursement systems, healthcare providers and disciplines; and<br />

electronic health records (EHRs). Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

demonstrate an understanding of health information management and healthcare<br />
