This course introduces the fundamental elements of the French language within a
cultural context. Emphasis is placed on the development of basic listening, speaking,
reading, and writing skills. Upon completion, students should be able to comprehend
and respond with grammatical accuracy to spoken and written French and
demonstrate cultural awareness. This course has been approved for transfer under the
Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in
Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. NOTE: This course does
NOT satisfy the humanities/fine arts general education core requirement for the

Corequisites: FRE-182
This course is a continuation of FRE-111 focusing on the fundamental elements of
the French language within a cultural context. Emphasis is placed on the progressive
development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Upon completion,
students should be able to comprehend and respond with increasing proficiency to
spoken and written French and demonstrate further cultural awareness. This course
has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as
a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A. and A.S.
degrees. NOTE: This course does NOT satisfy the general education core
requirement in humanities/fine arts for the A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees. (1997 SU)

French and demonstrate cultural awareness. This course has been approved to satisfy
