PED-254 Coaching Basketball 2 (1-2) AND<br />

This course introduces the theory and methods of coaching basketball. Emphasis is<br />

placed on rules, game strategies, and selected techniques of coaching basketball.<br />

Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competent coaching skills<br />

in basketball. This course has been approved <strong>to</strong> satisfy the Comprehensive<br />

Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course<br />

requirement for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. (1997 SU)<br />

PED-260 Lifeguard Training 2 (1-2) AND<br />

Prerequisites: PED-153<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course covers the skills, knowledge, and techniques of lifesaving and<br />

lifeguarding. Topics include identifying and minimizing aquatic hazards, recognizing<br />

and effectively rescuing people in distress, and developing safety skills. Upon<br />

completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate skills, knowledge, and techniques<br />

of lifesaving and lifeguarding <strong>to</strong> pass American Red Cross lifeguarding certification.<br />

This course has been approved <strong>to</strong> satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement<br />

for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course requirement for the A.A.,<br />

PED-262 Water Safety Instruc<strong>to</strong>r 2 (1-2) AND<br />

This course covers the knowledge and skills necessary <strong>to</strong> teach and certify others in<br />

the American Red Cross certification swimming programs. Emphasis is placed on<br />

teaching basic rescue skills, strengthening swimming strokes, and rescue and safety<br />

procedures. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate skills,<br />

knowledge, and techniques <strong>to</strong> pass the American Red Cross Water Safety Instruc<strong>to</strong>r's<br />

certification. This course has been approved <strong>to</strong> satisfy the Comprehensive<br />

Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course<br />

This course introduces fundamental issues in philosophy considering the views of<br />

classical and contemporary philosophers. Emphasis is placed on knowledge and<br />

belief, appearance and reality, determinism and free will, faith and reason, and justice<br />

and inequality. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> identify, analyze, and<br />

critique the philosophical components of an issue. This course has been approved for<br />

transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education<br />

course in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course<br />

also satisfies the general education course requirement in Humanities/Fine Arts for<br />
