MAT-285 Differential Equations 3 (3-0) AND<br />

Prerequisites: MAT-272, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides an introduction <strong>to</strong> ordinary differential equations with an<br />

emphasis on applications. Topics include first-order, linear higher-order, and systems<br />

of differential equations; numerical methods; series solutions; eigenvalues and<br />

eigenvec<strong>to</strong>rs; Laplace transforms; and Fourier series. Upon completion, students<br />

should be able <strong>to</strong> use differential equations <strong>to</strong> model physical phenomena, solve the<br />

equations, and use the solutions <strong>to</strong> analyze the phenomena. This course has been<br />

approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a<br />

premajor and/or elective course requirement for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees.<br />

NOTE: This course DOES satisfy the general education course requirement in<br />

MED-118 Medical Law and Ethics 2 (2-0) F<br />

This course covers legal relationships of physicians and patients, contractual<br />

agreements, professional liability, malpractice, medical practice acts, informed<br />

consent, and bioethical issues. Emphasis is placed on legal terms, professional<br />

attitudes, and the principles and basic concepts of ethics and laws involved in<br />

providing medical services. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> meet the<br />

legal and ethical responsibilities of a multi-skilled health professional. (1997 SU)<br />

MED-120 Survey of Medical Terminology 2 (2-0) F<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces the vocabulary, abbreviations, and symbols used in the<br />

language of medicine. Emphasis is placed on building medical terms using prefixes,<br />

suffixes, and word roots. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> pronounce,<br />

spell, and define accepted medical terms. (1997 SU)<br />

MED-121 Medical Terminology I 3 (3-0) F<br />

This course introduces prefixes, suffixes, and word roots used in the language of<br />

medicine. Topics include medical vocabulary and the terms that relate <strong>to</strong> the<br />

ana<strong>to</strong>my, physiology, pathological conditions, and treatment of selected systems.<br />

Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> pronounce, spell, and define medical<br />

terms as related <strong>to</strong> selected body systems and their pathological disorders. (1997 SU)<br />

This course is the second in a series of medical terminology courses. Topics include<br />
