ENG-242 British Literature II 3 (3-0) FS<br />

Prerequisites: ENG-112 or ENG-114<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course covers selected works in British literature from the Romantic Period <strong>to</strong><br />

the present. Emphasis is placed on his<strong>to</strong>rical background, cultural context, and<br />

literary analysis of selected prose, poetry, and drama. Upon completion, students<br />

should be able <strong>to</strong> interpret, analyze, and respond <strong>to</strong> literary works in their his<strong>to</strong>rical<br />

and cultural contexts. This course has been approved for transfer under the<br />

Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies<br />

the general education course requirement in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A.S. and<br />

This course introduces selected works from the Pacific, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the<br />

Americas from their literary beginnings through the seventeenth century. Emphasis is<br />

placed on his<strong>to</strong>rical background, cultural context, and literary analysis of selected<br />

prose, poetry, and drama. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> interpret,<br />

analyze, and respond <strong>to</strong> selected works. This course has been approved for transfer<br />

under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a general education course in<br />

Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A., A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. This course also satisfies<br />

the general education course requirement in Humanities/Fine Arts for the A.A.S. and<br />

This course provides a survey of the development of African-American literature<br />

from its beginnings <strong>to</strong> the present. Emphasis is placed on his<strong>to</strong>rical and cultural<br />

context, themes, literary traditions, and backgrounds of the authors. Upon<br />

completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> interpret, analyze, and respond <strong>to</strong> selected<br />

texts. This course has been approved for transfer under the Comprehensive<br />

Articulation Agreement as a premajor and/or elective course requirement for the<br />

A.A, A.F.A., and A.S. degrees. NOTE: This course DOES satisfy the general<br />

education core requirement in humanities/fine arts for the A.A.S. and A.G.E. degrees<br />
