COS Cosme<strong>to</strong>logy<br />

COS-111 Cosme<strong>to</strong>logy Concepts I 4 (4-0) FS<br />

Prerequisites: ENG-075, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: COS-112<br />

This course introduces basic cosme<strong>to</strong>logy concepts. Topics include safety, first aid,<br />

sanitation, bacteriology, ana<strong>to</strong>my, diseases and disorders, hygiene, product<br />

knowledge, chemistry, ethics, manicures, and other related <strong>to</strong>pics. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> safely and competently apply cosme<strong>to</strong>logy concepts in the<br />

COS-112 Salon I 8 (0-24) FS<br />

Prerequisites: ENG-075, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: COS-111<br />

This course introduces basic salon services. Topics include scalp treatments,<br />

shampooing, rinsing, hair color, design, haircutting, permanent waving, pressing,<br />

relaxing, wigs, and other related <strong>to</strong>pics. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong><br />

safely and competently demonstrate salon services. (1997 SU)<br />

COS-113 Cosme<strong>to</strong>logy Concepts II 4 (4-0) FS<br />

Prerequisites: COS-111, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: COS-114<br />

This course covers more comprehensive cosme<strong>to</strong>logy concepts. Topics include<br />

safety, product knowledge, chemistry, manicuring, chemical restructuring, and hair<br />

coloring. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> safely and competently apply<br />

these cosme<strong>to</strong>logy concepts in the salon setting. (1997 SU)<br />

COS-114 Salon II 8 (0-24) FS<br />

Prerequisites: COS-111, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: COS-113<br />

This course provides experience in a simulated salon setting. Topics include basic<br />

skin care, manicuring, nail application, scalp treatments, shampooing, rinsing, hair<br />

color, design, haircutting, chemical restructuring, pressing, wigs, and other related<br />

<strong>to</strong>pics. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> safely and competently<br />

COS-115 Cosme<strong>to</strong>logy Concepts III 4 (4-0) SS<br />

Prerequisites: COS-111, minimum grade C<br />

Corequisites: COS-116<br />

This course covers more comprehensive cosme<strong>to</strong>logy concepts. Topics include<br />

safety, product knowledge, salon management, salesmanship, skin care,<br />

electricity/light therapy, wigs, thermal hair styling, lash and brow tinting, superfluous<br />
