PSG Polysomnography<br />

Admission <strong>to</strong> the Polysomnography program is required before enrolling in<br />

PSG courses.<br />

PSG-110 Intro <strong>to</strong> Polysomnography 4 (3-2-0) F<br />

Prerequisites: None<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course introduces the polysomnography profession. Topics include the his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

of the profession and role of the polysomnographic technologist, communication,<br />

time management, infection control, basic patient assessment, and medical gas<br />

therapy. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in<br />

concepts through written and labora<strong>to</strong>ry evaluations. (2006 FA)<br />

PSG-111 Neuro/Cardiopulmonary A&P 4 (4-0-0) S<br />

Prerequisites: BIO-163 or BIO-165/BIO-166<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides a concentrated study of ana<strong>to</strong>my and physiology essential <strong>to</strong> the<br />

practice of polysomnography. Emphasis is placed on the physiology of the nervous,<br />

cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems and basic pharmacological principles. Upon<br />

completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in concepts through<br />

PSG-112 Polysomnography Fundamentals 3 (3-0-0) S<br />

Prerequisites: None<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary <strong>to</strong> manage/function in a<br />

polysomnographic labora<strong>to</strong>ry. Topics include recordkeeping, scheduling techniques,<br />

creation/implementation of departmental policies, reimbursement, the technologist's<br />

role as sleep advocate, and case management/patient education. Upon completion,<br />

students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in concepts through written<br />

PSG-210 Polysomnography I 7 (3-2-9) F<br />

Prerequisites: PSG-111<br />

Corequisites: None<br />

This course provides entry-level didactic, labora<strong>to</strong>ry, and clinical training in<br />

polysomnography. Emphasis is placed on medical terminology, instrumentation setup<br />

and calibration, recording and moni<strong>to</strong>ring techniques, and patient-technologist<br />

interactions. Upon completion, students should be able <strong>to</strong> demonstrate competence in<br />

concepts and procedures through written, labora<strong>to</strong>ry and clinical evaluations. (2006<br />

PSG-211 Polysomnography II 7 (2-6-9) S<br />

Prerequisites: PSG-210<br />

This course provides advanced-level didactic, labora<strong>to</strong>ry, and clinical training in<br />

polysomnography. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge and skills necessary <strong>to</strong><br />

obtain and evaluate high quality sleep recordings. Upon completion, students should
