Institutional Self Evaluation – 12-05-12<br />

Prerequisites, corequisites, and/or advisory courses are scrutinized;<br />

prerequisites and corequisites are linked to required entry skills by content<br />

review.<br />

Course objectives are clearly identified, are measurable, and demonstrate<br />

levels of critical thinking as evidenced by the use of Bloom‘s Taxonomy.<br />

Course content is detailed so that all instructors using the outline have clear<br />

guidelines regarding the minimum material that must be covered.<br />

Course content aligns with course objectives.<br />

Course content aligns with any course that will precede or will follow the<br />

course.<br />

Laboratory content is included if appropriate.<br />

Instructional methodologies are defined and are appropriate to the stated<br />

objectives of the course.<br />

Any special equipment or supplies that students must provide are noted.<br />

Methods of evaluation are described using specific examples of the types of<br />

assignments and exams that will determine students‘ grades.<br />

A representative text is assigned that is current and appropriate to the course<br />

content and at an appropriate reading level for the course.<br />

Examples of reading and writing assignments and outside assignments are<br />

included.<br />

The role of the course is consistent with the mission of the college.<br />

Learning outcomes are defined that clearly specify what students will learn<br />

and be able to do upon successful completion of the course.<br />

At the program level, the Curriculum Committee reviews course sequencing and total<br />

number of units required to ensure that students can attain their educational goals in a timely<br />

manner. Faculty collaboration with area deans is vital to the scheduling process to ensure that<br />

courses needed to attain educational goals are available to students. Program breadth is<br />

assured through the inclusion of general education requirements in all degree programs. All<br />

faculty must meet minimum educational qualification requirements established by the<br />

Chancellor‘s Office. (II.A.46)<br />

Self Evaluation<br />

Faculty and the Curriculum Committee take a lead role in assuring the quality of instruction<br />

through an in-depth approval and review process of all courses and programs. Program<br />

requirements are clearly described in the college Catalog and collaborative scheduling<br />

processes help to assure that students can complete programs in a timely manner.<br />

The college meets this standard.<br />
