As noted in the previous section, the college has honored the commitment it made to the<br />

ACCJC on its first follow-up visit in October 7, 2007 and has implemented and completed a<br />

full cycle of the Program Planning and Assessment model. The SLO/PPA committees are<br />

now mapping out the next five years for planning and assessment activities.<br />

Self Evaluation<br />

The college meets this standard and the Commission’s concern raised in June 2010, which<br />

stated: “The Commission expects that institutions meet standards that require the<br />

identification and assessment of student learning outcomes, and the use of assessment data to<br />

plan and implement improvements to educational quality, by fall 2012.”<br />

Planning Agenda<br />

The interim Dean of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness will collaborate with the<br />

Student Learning Outcomes and Program Planning and Assessment Committees to review<br />

the current assessment processes of all courses and programs. This review will identify<br />

additional research tools and data that may be integrated into the regular program review of<br />

all courses and programs and the college budget and master education/facilities plans. The<br />

process and timeline will be determined during the strategic planning process that will be<br />

completed by June 2013.<br />

If an institution uses departmental course and/or program examinations, it validates their<br />

effectiveness in measuring student learning and minimizes test biases.<br />

Descriptive Summary<br />

<strong>Hartnell</strong> does not use departmental course or program examinations.<br />

II.A.2.h<br />

The institution awards credit based on student achievement of the course’s stated learning<br />

outcomes. Units of credit awarded are consistent with institutional policies that reflect<br />

generally accepted norms or equivalencies in higher education.<br />
