LIBRARY AND LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES<br />

Library and other learning support services for students are sufficient to support the<br />

institution’s instructional programs and intellectual, aesthetic, and cultural activities in<br />

whatever format and wherever they are offered. Such services include library services and<br />

collections, tutoring, learning centers, computer laboratories, and learning technology<br />

development and training. The institution provides access and training to students so that<br />

library and other learning support services may be used effectively and efficiently. The<br />

institution systematically assesses these services using student learning outcomes, faculty<br />

input, and other appropriate measures in order to improve the effectiveness of the services.<br />

II.C.1<br />

The institution supports the quality of its instructional programs by providing library and<br />

other learning support services that are sufficient in quantity, currency, depth, and variety<br />

to facilitate educational offerings, regardless of location or means of delivery.<br />

Descriptive Summary<br />

The Library and Learning Support Services provide essential services that support the<br />

college‘s mission, instructional programs, and activities. The learning support services and<br />

programs offer students many programs and services to expand classroom learning and<br />

ensure success in achieving their academic goals. Library and Learning Support Services are<br />

available to students at Main Campus, students at the King City and Alisal Education<br />

Centers, and distance education students. Assessment of services and programs is ongoing,<br />

and the assessment results are used to make improvements that benefit student learning and<br />

success.<br />

Self Evaluation<br />

The Library and Learning Support Services evaluate services and programs on a regular basis<br />

through student and faculty surveys, usage statistics, student learning outcomes, and other<br />

measures. Self-evaluation has been ongoing for many years in the Library, but in 2009 a<br />

calendar of assessments was developed by the faculty librarians and has been implemented.<br />

Each semester at least one service or area is evaluated, and the results of the evaluation are<br />

studied, discussed, and used to make changes and improvements. (II.C.1)<br />

The Library and Learning Support Services staff continues to evaluate collections, services<br />

and programs regularly in order to provide the best services and resources possible to<br />

students, faculty, staff, and the community. A goal for the future is the creation of a Student<br />
