Planning Agenda<br />

<strong>College</strong> Administration working in collaboration with the Distance Education Committee<br />

will take steps to plan and implement student and instructor evaluation procedures for<br />

distance education courses during the 2012-13 academic year.<br />

Working collaboratively with the Vice President of Information and Technology Resources,<br />

the Distance Education Committee will facilitate training and evaluation of the pending<br />

transition of course management delivery software from e<strong>College</strong> to Etudes during spring<br />

2013.<br />

The interim Dean of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness will work with faculty and<br />

administration to identify research tools that may be used to determine why success and<br />

retention in online courses is lower than the rates in traditional courses in some discipline<br />

areas. This data will be integrated into the regular program review of disciplines offering<br />

online courses. The process and timeline will be determined during the strategic planning<br />

process that will be completed by June 2013.<br />

The institution identifies student learning outcomes for courses, programs, certificates, and<br />

degrees; assesses student achievement of those outcomes; and uses assessment results to<br />

make improvements.<br />

Descriptive Summary<br />

The combined work of the Student Learning Outcomes Committee and Program Planning<br />

and Assessment Committee has provided the structure for the development and assessment of<br />

the college‘s course-level, program-level, and institutional learning outcomes as well as the<br />

processes needed to ensure their effectiveness. Discipline faculty wrote course-level<br />

outcomes (SLOs) for all courses in all programs at <strong>Hartnell</strong>. (IIA.3) The Curriculum<br />

Committee requires that course-level outcomes be included in the course development or<br />

revision process. Program outcomes for all degree and certificate programs at <strong>Hartnell</strong> are<br />

published in the college Catalog. (IIA.2) Through CurricUNET, faculty align course-level<br />

outcomes to program-level outcomes and to institutional outcomes. (IIA.6)<br />

ASSESSMENT OF COURSE AND PROGRAM-LEVEL OUTCOMES<br />

Faculty have identified and assessed course and program-level outcomes, have analyzed<br />

resultant data within discipline and division meetings, and are able to base course and<br />
