These are then the aspects wewill go through. But first we need to establish what it is the REDD regime intends toaccomplish. As mentioned before the idea is to reduce emissions from deforestationand forest degradation and increase the carbon storage of the forest by paying thelocal communities who are able to do this. With the added + in REDD this thought isexpanded upon by adding: conserving and enhancing forest carbon stocks, andmanage forests in a sustainable manner. Enhancement of forest carbon stocks isreferring to forest regeneration and rehabilitation, negative degradation and emissions, and carbon removal, while managing forests in a sustainable manner refers toactivities which cut emissions and boost removals (Vatn and Angelsen 2009, p.2.).Many also see it as having the potential for added co-benefits, particularlybiodiversity conservation and poverty alleviation, and thus the choice of governancestructure will also affect the outcomes of these (Vatn and Vedeld 2011).Within the REDD literature some terms make up a large part of the conceptualframework concerning REDD+, most of them being focused on issues for its success. In order to clarify what is meant by each of these in a REDD context, we first provide38
