FIGURE 25 - STRUCTURALLY DEFICIENT AND FUNCTIONALLY OBSOLETE BRIDGES ON CAPECOD2.2.12 U.S. ROUTE 6U.S. Route 6 runs from Provincetown, Massachusetts all the way to Bishop, California,and is the longest continuous route in the United States. On Cape Cod, Route 6 is themajor transportation corridor, particularly for those traveling long distances. Fromwhere it enters Barnstable County in Buzzards Bay until its end in Provincetown, itprovides a primarily limited-access high-speed means of traveling along the spine of theCape both for private automobiles and for public transit. The Route 6 corridor in theOuter Cape, where the roadway does not have limited access, also contains segments ofthe Claire Saltonstall Bikeway, or State Bicycle Route 1.
