Peak hour traffic on Route 28 from downtown Falmouth toSandwich Road can experience high congestion. Understanding local commutingpatterns will help planning efforts to address capacity limitations and peak hourcongestion.Another major area of congestion on Cape Cod is within the Cape Cod Canaltransportation network. Given current employment figures, commuting trips accountedfor roughly one-third of average daily traffic over the canal roadways in 2000. The following table lists for each Cape Cod town the number of workers residing in eachtown along with the location of employment. Bourne had the highest percentage ofresident workers traveling to employment outside Barnstable County (34.9 %), in partdue to its relative proximity to off-Cape employment centers.
