Expansion of Next-Gen Mobile Data Terminals to ParatransitThe CCRTA will deploy the latest mobile data technology in their paratransit fleet,including state-of-the-art displays, global positioning systems (GPS), automaticvehicle location (AVL) systems, in-vehicle navigation systems, and digital drivermanifests and mobile data collection on passenger services. This equipment supportsthe mobility management call center functions by providing real-time informationfor dial-a-ride passengers on the location of their scheduled vehicle. Next Bus Stop Announcements and Automatic Passenger Counting.The CCRTA will build on the state-of-the-art mobile data terminals (MDTs) andcomputer assisted scheduling and dispatching systems (CASD) to add technology tothe MDTs to provide next bus stop announcements/displays on board regional andlocal fixed route services. Automatic passenger counters will also be attached to theMDTs, freeing the driver from manually counting passengers and yielding improvedservice planning data. Web 2.0 Integrated Intermodal Traveler Information over the WebThe CCRTA will provide a number of customer enhancements using the latestinternet technology, including intermodal trip planning, displays at malls andintermodal terminals that provide real-time mapping of transit vehicle locations,estimated time of arrival (ETA), real-time displays for major destinations andmultimodal terminals, ETA displays at bus shelters, and smartphone applications. MBTA-Compatible Electronic Fare Systems on Transit and Inter-City BusesThe CCRTA is deploying an electronic fare system (EFS) on all CCRTA fixed routeand paratransit vehicles that will be interoperable with the Massachusetts BayTransit Authority. <strong>Plan</strong>s are underway at the state-level that will deploy this EFSsystem on inter-city buses connecting <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong> with Boston, Providence and NewYork City as well as cities throughout Massachusetts. Ultimately, this electronicpayment system will include parking as well as transit components, promoting a carlesson <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong> experience. Construction of Enhanced Bus SheltersThe CCRTA is building and deploying architecturally appropriate <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong> style busshelters that are intelligent, accessible, and energy efficient. These improvements area part of the Transit Enhancement Initiative on <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong> to increase ridership,provide real-time customer information and amenities that make using transit easierand more convenient for the consumer, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Operational Assistance for Dial-A-Ride <strong>Transportation</strong> (DART).This CCRTA initiative will provide 100% ARRA operating assistance to support newdrivers and support staff to drive the ten new vehicles purchase in task 2.02 (above)that will provide dial-a-ride transportation (DART) in underserved and high demandareas of <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong>.
