Analysis of AlternativesIn the previous chapters of the <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Transportation</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> (RTP), many existing andpotential future problems have been identified, as well as potential solutions.Specifically, detailed information on many of the safety improvements is available inChapter 3 (Safety). Detailed information on many of the bicycle/pedestrian alternativesis available in Chapter 5 (<strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Cod</strong> Bike <strong>Plan</strong>). This chapter includes information on themany potential solutions, analysis methods used, and descriptions of alternatives.Summaries of recent CCC transportation planning efforts and additional regional effortsare included in this chapter. The results of these analyses are used in the financiallyconstrainedprioritization listing in the following chapter – Chapter 8 (Financial <strong>Plan</strong>and Recommended Projects).7.1 TYPES OF TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVESFor purposes of organization, each alternative has been placed in one of four categories:<strong>Transportation</strong> Programs<strong>Transportation</strong> ProjectsSmart Solutions<strong>Transportation</strong> StudiesThese categories are described in detail in the following sections. The final section onthis chapter includes a detailed summary analysis of each alternative.7.1.1 TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMSThe RTP, as a long-range transportation planning document, covers a time-span beyondour ability to define every specific project to be implemented up to the year 2035. It istherefore important to reserve resources (funds) over the life of the plan for specifictransportation categories that support the RTP goals.
