There is a clearly visible connection between type of ownership and price level. A cluster analytical classification according to seasonality, size and type of ownership suggests to segment the set of hotels in 1) small family owned hotels with a large seasonality share, 2) large year-round hotels run by chains and 3) small, family owned but also whole-year open hotels. On the other hand, except for the number of stars the price level is not visibly related to size, seasonality or ownership. Figure 1). Many of the hotels take advantage of the natural resources, the most important of them being the possibility to ski (48 %) and the availability of thermal water or hot springs (18%). Only 41 % of hotels do not make use of any of these two benefits. Also many thermal hotels lie in mountainous areas, but not as many as for hotels where there is no natural hot water available.
