LA PROMOCIÓN DE LA LECTURA:<br />

UNA PERMANENTE TAREA EDUCATIVA<br />

RESUMEN. A partir <strong>de</strong> las premisas iniciales sobre la promoción <strong>de</strong> la lectura, correspon<strong>de</strong><br />

hacer un diagnóstico <strong>en</strong> profundidad sobre las causas <strong>de</strong> la crisis <strong>de</strong> la lectura y proponer<br />

estrategias oportunas para llevar a cabo con éxito la labor <strong>de</strong> los doc<strong>en</strong>tes como<br />

colaboradores <strong>en</strong> el fom<strong>en</strong>to <strong>de</strong> los hábitos lectores. Para ello es necesario distinguir<br />

<strong>en</strong>tre la función <strong>en</strong>tre los textos instructivos, los textos informativos y las lecturas recreativas<br />

<strong>en</strong> el <strong>de</strong>sarrollo <strong>de</strong> las tareas escolares que promueve el profesor como mediador<br />

<strong>en</strong> la relación <strong>de</strong>l niño o <strong>de</strong>l jov<strong>en</strong> con la literatura. Mediación que <strong>de</strong>be <strong>de</strong>scansar <strong>en</strong><br />

una eficaz <strong>en</strong>señanza <strong>de</strong> la lectura, continuada y efectiva <strong>en</strong> sus activida<strong>de</strong>s, que fom<strong>en</strong>te<br />

su carácter <strong>de</strong> técnica <strong>de</strong> trabajo y que se traduzca <strong>en</strong> el fom<strong>en</strong>to <strong>de</strong> la vocación lectora.<br />

La responsabilidad <strong>de</strong> la tarea doc<strong>en</strong>te exige a<strong>de</strong>más dotar a los escolares <strong>de</strong> hábitos<br />

<strong>de</strong> reflexión crítica para que puedan discernir los valores que aportan las diversas creaciones<br />

literarias.<br />

ABSTRACT. Apart from the initial premises regarding the promotion of reading, it is<br />

important to make a thorough diagnosis of the causes of the reading crisis and propose<br />

timely strategies in or<strong>de</strong>r to successfully carry out the work of teachers as collaborators<br />

in the promotion of good reading habits. In or<strong>de</strong>r to do this, it is necessary to distinguish<br />

betwe<strong>en</strong> the role of instructive texts, informative texts and recreational reading<br />

wh<strong>en</strong> <strong>de</strong>veloping activities which the teacher <strong>en</strong>courages in his role as mediator betwe<strong>en</strong><br />

the child, or young adult, and the literature. Mediation must sit comfortably with an<br />

effici<strong>en</strong>t teaching of reading, continued and effective in its activities, which <strong>en</strong>courages<br />

its nature as a technique for working and which translates into the promotion of reading<br />

as a vocation.<br />

Furthermore, the chall<strong>en</strong>ge which teachers face is to equip stud<strong>en</strong>ts with critical thinking<br />

skills so that they are able to discern the values which diverse literary creations provi<strong>de</strong>.<br />
