Nell’ora sacra che, alfin ci congi<strong>un</strong>ge,<br />
o, fanciulla, vorrei<br />
che avessi lieto il cor!<br />
AMINTA<br />
Vi chieggo scusa<br />
pe’l mio goffo contegno;<br />
io sono <strong>un</strong> <strong>po</strong>’ confusa<br />
e, ancor, tutta stordita<br />
ch’abbia voluto, Iddio,<br />
così premiar mia vita!<br />
MOROSUS<br />
No!… Fuga, o cara bimba, ogni illusione!<br />
Gli onori, ahimè son larve!<br />
Un grave sacrificio sol ti attende!<br />
Ah! sì… ben facil parve<br />
la cosa in sulle prime ancora a me!<br />
Pensai: «Ma s<strong>po</strong>sa, d<strong>un</strong>que, <strong>un</strong> puro fior,<br />
che ti rallegri il vecchio, freddo cor».<br />
Va là! Ciasc<strong>un</strong>a ambirà al grande onore,<br />
d’esser congi<strong>un</strong>ta a sì no<strong>bil</strong> signore!»<br />
Ma, se or t’affisso, o fiore di beltà,<br />
bocciol ricolmo d’ogni casto ardor,<br />
la mano trema, e già mi trema il cor!<br />
O, come <strong>un</strong> uom già veccho,<br />
<strong>po</strong>trebbe osare di <strong>po</strong>sar lo sguardo<br />
su tale giovinezza?<br />
Oh, sempre, sempre più mi pesa il dubbio<br />

keine Ehr’,<br />
vor ein großes Opfer bist du gestellt!<br />
Sieh, Kind,<br />
erst sah ich’s selbst so leicht wie du.<br />
Ich dacht’: nimmst dir ein j<strong>un</strong>ges Weib,<br />
als gält’s bloß Spiel <strong>un</strong>d Zeitvertreib,<br />
<strong>un</strong>d meint, eine jede müßt’ glücklich sich preisen,<br />
meine Ehefrau <strong>un</strong>d Gemahlin zu heißen.<br />
Doch blick’ ich dich jetzt, du Liebliche, an,<br />
du halb erst erschlossne, du Gottesblüte,<br />
so bebt mir die Seele, so bebt mir die Hand:<br />
Wie darf ich alter grämlicher Mann<br />
um soviel sorglose Jugend weben?<br />
Ja, immer schwerer<br />
drückt es mich, mein Kind,<br />
ob wir beide nicht doch zu <strong>un</strong>gleich sind.<br />
