Was Liebe doch für W<strong>un</strong>der wirkt –<br />
war eben noch erbost <strong>un</strong>d schwach,<br />
ein alter Mann, ein kalter Mann,<br />
<strong>un</strong>d n<strong>un</strong> blüht’s selig auf in mir<br />
<strong>un</strong>d all dies Glück verdank’ ich dir!<br />
IL BARBIERE<br />

lo veggo ch’essa v ‘ ha rinfrescato e<br />
reso più arzillo il sangue e chiarito gli occhi; io<br />
riconosco, a mala pena, il burbero Sir Morosus<br />
di ieri; e, quasi, quasi, non me la sento più di<br />
testimoniare, onestamente, innanzi al curato<br />
e al Notaro, che voi siate quello che sempre<br />
foste! Ma essi sono già sulla scala, i colendissimi<br />
Signori; e, quindi, per doveroso rispetto,<br />
trattenetevi, «ante copulationem», dal prodigare<br />
quelle prove d’affetto che, «<strong>po</strong>st copulationem»,<br />
sono <strong>un</strong>o svago lecito; ed, anzi, <strong>un</strong> sacro<br />
dovere di s<strong>po</strong>si credenti e pii; e che condiscono<br />
ogni matrimonio assai meglio di quel che<br />
lo zibibbo non condisca il panettone!<br />
BARBIER<br />
Ei, ei, wie rasch das Arkanum wirkt! Ich sehe,<br />
sie hat Euch das Blut flink gemacht <strong>un</strong>d die<br />
Augen hell, ich erkenne den düsteren Sir Morosus<br />
von gestern kaum <strong>un</strong>d kann beinah’ nicht<br />
mehr redlich Zeugenschaft ablegen vor Pfarrer<br />
<strong>un</strong>d Notar, daß Ihr derselbe seid wie allesonst.<br />
Aber sie sind schon auf der Treppe, die ehrwürdigen<br />
Herren, haltet also um des Respektes<br />
willen ante copulationem zurück mit aller Zärtlichkeit,<br />
die <strong>po</strong>st copulationem ein wohlerlaubtes<br />
Vergnügen <strong>un</strong>d sogar Pflicht frommer Ehegatten<br />
ist <strong>un</strong>d jede Ehe besser würzt als Rosinen<br />
den Kuchen.<br />
