124 SUMMARY Volume LXV n. 1 – Gennaio-Marzo 2011 “Progetto Lauree Scientifiche” (PLS) in Italian University comes from the need to promote scientific faculties, that in the recent past have been an alarming decrease in enrollment. This phenomenon is framed as a social one. As part of PLS, the Faculty of Statistics in Messina University started, in the period from February to May 2009, a laboratorial activity of “statistics in class”, for only students attending the IV year of secondary school in Messina and provinces. The administration of a questionnaire allowed to obtain some information on the causes of the examined phenomenon. The information collected refer to the following sections; "Personal Details", "Career Education", "University Choice," "Family" and "Leisure." Important information are related to "University choice" section, containing not only the propensity towards the university registration, but also the reasons that, according to respondents, can explain the low propensity into the registration in scientific sciences. Introduzione Antonio Lucadamo, Giovanni Portoso Uno dei problemi della Customer Satisfaction è la quantificazione che consente di convertire su una scala metrica i giudizi qualitativi forniti su servizi e prodotti. Una semplice tecnica è la cosiddetta quantificazione diretta: questa tecnica ipotizza che le modalità di un carattere qualitativo siano alla stessa distanza, ma questa è un’ipotesi che non è rispettata in molte situazioni (Marbach, 1974). Per questa ragione è preferibile usare un metodo alternativo, la quantificazione indiretta, che consiste nell’assegnare numeri reali alle categorie di una variabile qualitativa. In questo tipo di quantificazione i valori non sono equidistanti ma dipendono da una variabile latente. Diverse tecniche di misurazione sono state sviluppate durante gli anni (Thurstone, 1925), basate soprattutto sull’ipotesi che il modello sia distribuito secondo una normale. Questa assunzione potrebbe essere realistica in campo psicometrico, ma non è sempre valida per la Customer Satisfaction, specialmente se i giudizi sono quasi tutti positivi o negativi, quindi addensati sulla coda destra o sinistra della distribuzione. In questo caso la distribuzione più appropriata non risulta essere la normale, ma l’uso della distribuzione esponenziale è senz’altro più adeguato (Portoso, 2003a). La scelta fra i due tipi di distribuzione può essere effettuata utilizzando un indice (EN), introdotto da Portoso (2003b) . Per tale indice l’autore individuò in maniera empirica delle soglie che consentissero di scegliere in modo più opportuno la distribuzione più adatta. In questo lavoro, dopo aver descritto le procedure di quantificazione appena citate, si definiscono con maggiore precisione, grazie a procedure di simulazione, i valori soglia dell’indice EN. 2.
