BIOGRAPHICAL <strong>IN</strong>FORMATION<br />

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Julie Holcomb received her Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />

Arts cum laude in History and Cre<strong>at</strong>ive Writing from Pacific <strong>University</strong> (Forest Grove,<br />

Oregon) in 1999. She received her Master <strong>of</strong> Library and Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Science in<br />

Archives and Records Management from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>at</strong> Austin in 2000, and<br />

her Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy in Trans<strong>at</strong>lantic History in August 2010. At UT-<strong>Arlington</strong>, she<br />

received a Trans<strong>at</strong>lantic Fellowship from the department <strong>of</strong> History. In 2007, she was<br />

named a <strong>University</strong> Scholar. Dr. Holcomb is a member <strong>of</strong> Beta Phi Mu and Phi Kappa<br />

Phi honor societies. Dr. Holcomb was named a finalist for a Woodrow Wilson Doctoral<br />

Dissert<strong>at</strong>ion Fellowship in Women’s Studies.<br />

From 2001 through 2008, Dr. Holcomb served as Archivist and l<strong>at</strong>er Director <strong>of</strong><br />

the Pearce Civil War and Western Art Collections <strong>at</strong> Navarro College in Corsicana,<br />

<strong>Texas</strong>. She also served as an adjunct faculty member in the college’s history department,<br />

teaching the American history survey. During this period, she published Southern Sons,<br />

Northern Soldiers: <strong>The</strong> Civil War Letters <strong>of</strong> the Remley Brothers, 22 nd Iowa (Northern<br />

Illinois <strong>University</strong> Press, 2004). In 2008, Dr. Holcomb was named Lecturer in Museum<br />

Studies <strong>at</strong> Baylor <strong>University</strong> in Waco, <strong>Texas</strong>. Her teaching areas include the history <strong>of</strong><br />

museums, collections management, preserv<strong>at</strong>ion and conserv<strong>at</strong>ion, ethics, and archives.<br />

She serves as Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Directors, Heart <strong>of</strong> <strong>Texas</strong> Regional History Fair.<br />
