Representative Pedon<br />

Cloverlick loam, in a wooded area <strong>of</strong> Highsplint-Matewan-Cloverlick association, very<br />

steep, extremely stony, on a north-facing lower backslope; 1.25 miles west-southwest<br />

<strong>of</strong> Woodville, 0.75 mile south-southeast <strong>of</strong> Alkol, and 250 feet south <strong>of</strong> Bear Branch <strong>of</strong><br />

Horse Creek; <strong>US</strong>GS Griffithsville topographic quadrangle; lat. 38 degrees 09 minutes<br />

18 seconds N. and long. 81 degrees 54 minutes 24 seconds W.<br />

Oi—0 to 2 inches; slightly decomposed leaf litter.<br />

A—2 to 9 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry;<br />

weak fine granular structure; very friable; many fine and medium roots;<br />

10 percent sandstone and siltstone channers; slightly acid; clear smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

BA—9 to 13 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark brown (10YR 3/3)<br />

channery loam; weak fine and medium subangular blocky structure; very friable;<br />

many fine and medium roots; 20 percent sandstone and siltstone channers;<br />

moderately acid; gradual smooth boundary.<br />

Bw1—13 to 29 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) very channery loam; weak<br />

medium subangular blocky structure; friable; common fine and medium roots;<br />

35 percent sandstone and siltstone channers; moderately acid; gradual smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

Bw2—29 to 45 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) very channery loam; weak medium<br />

subangular blocky structure; friable; few fine and medium roots; 50 percent<br />

sandstone and siltstone channers; very strongly acid; gradual smooth boundary.<br />

Bw3—45 to 50 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) extremely channery silt loam; weak medium<br />

subangular blocky structure; friable; few fine roots; 60 percent sandstone and<br />

siltstone channers; very strongly acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

C—50 to 65 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) extremely channery loam; massive;<br />

very friable; 70 percent sandstone and siltstone channers; very strongly acid.<br />
