quadrangle; lat. 38 degrees 08 minutes 22 seconds N. and long. 82 degrees<br />

10 minutes 45 seconds W.<br />

A1—0 to 5 inches; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) silt loam, brown (10YR 4/3)<br />

dry; weak fine granular structure; very friable; common fine roots; neutral; clear<br />

smooth boundary.<br />

A2—5 to 18 inches; dark brown (10YR 3/3) loam, brown (10YR 4/3) dry; strata<br />

(0.5 inch) <strong>of</strong> dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) loamy fine sand; weak medium<br />

granular structure; very friable; few fine roots; slightly acid; gradual smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

C1—18 to 40 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) sandy loam; massive; very friable;<br />

common dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) sand bedding planes; 3 percent coal<br />

fragments (less than 1 millimeter in size); moderately acid; gradual smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

C2—40 to 65 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) loamy fine sand; single grain; very<br />

friable; few dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) sand bedding planes; 2 percent coal<br />
