Representative Pedon<br />

Kaymine channery loam, in an area <strong>of</strong> Kaymine and Fiveblock soils, 35 to 65 percent<br />

slopes, extremely stony; on a hillside in a reclaimed area previously used for surface<br />

mining; 0.75 mile northeast <strong>of</strong> the intersection <strong>of</strong> the Logan-Mingo-<strong>Lincoln</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

lines and 0.7 mile west-northwest <strong>of</strong> the Rockhouse Fork <strong>of</strong> Big Harts Creek; <strong>US</strong>GS<br />

Trace topographic quadrangle; lat. 37 degrees 59 minutes 00 seconds N. and<br />

long. 82 degrees 10 minutes 56 seconds W.<br />

A—0 to 3 inches; grayish brown (10YR 5/2) channery loam; weak fine granular<br />

structure; very friable; common fine roots; 20 percent siltstone channers;<br />

moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary.<br />

C1—3 to 23 inches; gray (10YR 6/1) very channery silt loam; common distinct yellow<br />

(10YR 7/6) and reddish brown (5YR 4/4) lithochromic mottles; massive; very<br />

friable; few fine roots; 45 percent sandstone and siltstone channers (55 percent<br />

sandstone and 45 percent siltstone); moderately alkaline; gradual smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

C2—23 to 41 inches; gray (10YR 5/1) extremely channery loam; common distinct<br />

yellow (10YR 7/6) lithochromic mottles; massive; very friable; 60 percent<br />

sandstone, siltstone, and shale channers (60 percent siltstone, 30 percent<br />

sandstone, and 10 percent shale); neutral; gradual smooth boundary.<br />

C3—41 to 65 inches; gray (10YR 6/1) extremely channery loam; common distinct<br />

yellow (10YR 7/6) and brown (10YR 5/3) lithochromic mottles; massive; very<br />

friable; 65 percent sandstone, siltstone, and shale channers (55 percent<br />

sandstone, 30 percent siltstone, and 15 percent shale); neutral.<br />
