Big Ugly Creek; <strong>US</strong>GS Mud topographic quadrangle; lat. 38 degrees 02 minutes<br />

01 second N. and long. 81 degrees 57 minutes 17 seconds W.<br />

A—0 to 7 inches; brown (10YR 4/3) loam; weak fine and medium granular structure;<br />

very friable; common fine roots; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

BA—7 to 12 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) loam; weak medium subangular<br />

blocky structure; very friable; common very fine roots; moderately acid; clear<br />

smooth boundary.<br />

Bw1—12 to 19 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) loam; weak medium subangular<br />

blocky structure; very friable; few very fine roots; slightly acid; gradual smooth<br />

boundary.<br />

Bw2—19 to 30 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) fine sandy loam; common medium<br />

distinct light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) redox depletions; few fine prominent<br />

reddish yellow (7.5YR 6/6) iron accumulations; weak medium subangular blocky<br />

structure; very friable; slightly acid; gradual smooth boundary.<br />

Bg—30 to 43 inches; light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) and brownish yellow (10YR 6/6)<br />

fine sandy loam; common fine and medium prominent strong brown (7.5YR 5/6)<br />

masses in which iron has accumulated; few fine prominent black (7.5YR 2.5/1)<br />

masses in which manganese has accumulated; weak medium subangular blocky<br />

structure; very friable; neutral; clear smooth boundary.<br />

Cg1—43 to 52 inches; light gray (10YR 7/1) sandy loam; common medium prominent<br />

brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) sand coatings on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; massive; very friable;<br />

10 percent sandstone gravel; slightly acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />
