Representative Pedon<br />

Skidmore gravelly sandy loam, frequently flooded, on a low flood plain along<br />

Sulphur Creek; about 1.1 miles northwest <strong>of</strong> Tony Cemetery, 0.5 mile northeast<br />

<strong>of</strong> Green Shoals Mountain, and 800 feet east <strong>of</strong> Big Ugly Creek; <strong>US</strong>GS Big Creek<br />

topographic quadrangle; lat. 38 degrees 02 minutes 57 seconds N. and<br />

long. 82 degrees 03 minutes 07 seconds W.<br />

A—0 to 10 inches; brown (10YR 4/3) gravelly sandy loam; moderate medium<br />

granular structure; very friable; common very fine and medium roots; few coarse<br />

roots; 15 percent sandstone gravel; moderately acid; abrupt smooth boundary.<br />

Bw—10 to 22 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) very gravelly sandy loam;<br />

weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable; few very fine and medium<br />

roots; 40 percent sandstone gravel; slightly acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

BC—22 to 30 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6 and 4/4) extremely cobbly<br />

sandy loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable; few very fine and<br />

fine roots; 65 percent sandstone cobbles; slightly acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

C—30 to 65 inches; dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and brown (10YR 4/3)<br />

extremely cobbly loamy sand; loose, single grain; very friable; few very fine roots;<br />

80 percent sandstone cobbles; slightly acid.<br />

Range in Characteristics<br />
