Latham silt loam, in a pastured area <strong>of</strong> Dormont-Latham complex, 15 to 25 percent<br />

slopes, in Wayne <strong>County</strong>, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>; about 300 yards east-southeast <strong>of</strong> the<br />

intersection <strong>of</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> State Routes 152 and 37 and about 200 yards southeast<br />

<strong>of</strong> the confluence <strong>of</strong> Trace Fork and the <strong>West</strong> Fork <strong>of</strong> Twelvepole Creek; <strong>US</strong>GS<br />

Wayne topographic quadrangle; lat. 38 degrees 10 minutes 35 seconds N. and<br />

long. 82 degrees 28 minutes 35 seconds W.<br />

A—0 to 4 inches; dark brown (10YR 3/3) silt loam, light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4)<br />

dry; moderate fine and medium granular structure; very friable; many fine and<br />

medium roots; 5 percent siltstone and shale channers; slightly acid; abrupt<br />

smooth boundary.<br />

BA—4 to 7 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) channery silt loam; moderate medium<br />

granular structure; friable; many fine and medium roots; 20 percent siltstone and<br />

shale channers; slightly acid; clear wavy boundary.<br />

Bt1—7 to 16 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) channery silty clay loam; moderate<br />

fine and medium subangular blocky structure; friable; common fine and medium<br />

roots; many distinct clay films on faces <strong>of</strong> peds; 15 percent siltstone and shale<br />

channers; very strongly acid; clear smooth boundary.<br />

Bt2—16 to 23 inches; light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/4) channery silty clay; many fine<br />

and medium light gray (2.5Y 7/2) redox depletions; weak fine and medium<br />

subangular blocky structure; firm; common fine roots; many distinct clay films on<br />

faces <strong>of</strong> peds; 25 percent siltstone and shale channers; very strongly acid; clear<br />

wavy boundary.<br />

Bt3—23 to 29 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) channery silty clay; many medium<br />

and coarse light gray (10YR 7/1) redox depletions; weak medium subangular<br />

blocky structure; firm; few fine roots; few or common distinct clay films on faces <strong>of</strong><br />

peds; 30 percent siltstone and shale channers; very strongly acid; clear wavy<br />

boundary.<br />

C—29 to 34 inches; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) channery silty clay; many medium<br />

and coarse light gray (10YR 7/1) redox depletions; massive; firm; 30 percent<br />

siltstone and shale channers; very strongly acid; abrupt wavy boundary.<br />

Cr—34 to 39 inches; s<strong>of</strong>t interbedded acid gray shale and siltstone bedrock.<br />
