At Bu-Njem were discovered 146 Latin ostraca of which 117 contained records<br />

of a military unit which was stationed here in the early-mid third century—a<br />

detachment of the III Augusta, at least up to AD 238 when the legion was<br />

disbanded. <strong>The</strong> ostracon translated forms part of a daily report presumably<br />

sent to the commanding officer, and from which information could be extracted<br />

for a more detailed report.<br />
