18 Phaophi. Agreement of Thenetkouis with Lucius. In year three of
Emperor Caesar Nerva Trajan Augustus, Conqueror of the Germans,
18 Phaophi, at Euhemeria in the district of Themistes in the Arsinoite
nome. Thenetkouis, daughter of Heron, olive-carrier, Persian, about
twenty-six years of age, with a scar on her right shin, with, as her
guardian, her kinsman Leontas, son of Hippalus, about fifty-four years
of age, with a scar on the right side of his forehead, confirms to Lucius
Bellenus Gemellus, discharged legionary veteran, about sixty-seven years
of age, with a scar on his left wrist, that she has received from him
[directly by] hand from his house sixteen silver drachmas as caution
money which may not be disclaimed. Thenetkouis is consequently under
obligation to carry at the olive-press which belongs to Lucius Bellenus
Gemellus at Euhemeria, from whatever day he gives her orders, the
olive crop included in the current third year, performing all the tasks
appropriate for a carrier, until the end of the entire process of olive-oil
manufacture; and she is to receive from Lucius Bellenus her daily wages
at the same amount as the other olive-carriers in the village, and Lucius
is to deduct the sum of sixteen silver drachmas in instalments from her
wages that are to be paid…
Cf. SP 109; this veteran owned land in several villages in the Fayum.
