unit mentioned was the part-mounted cohors I Veterana Hispanorum equitata,
known from a diploma to have been in Lower Moesia in AD 99 and in Dacia
in 129 and 140; during the period described in the papyrus, it was based at
Stobi in Macedonia though many of its soldiers were on detachment in Moesia
and elsewhere. Marichal has argued that this document is not itself a pridianum
but an extraordinary strength report during the Dacian wars which made use
of a pridianum (Bruckner and Marichal 1963). It may have been subsequently
brought to Egypt by the official who received it.
