LBAM Host Fruit from New Zealand
Use these special procedures to detect various pests, including light brown
apple moth (LBAM) and hitchhiking pests. LBAM host fruit require a
thorough review of all required documentation. Follow any special instructions
or import requirements listed in the commodity report (CIR) in FAVIR or the
Country reference table in this manual.
Inspectional Unit
The inspectional unit is all the containers on the bill of lading to get a sample
of 300 fruits.
Sampling Rate
Randomly select 30 boxes from throughout the consignment and inspect 10
fruits from each box. If the fruit is on trays, sampling from the top tray is
satisfactory.
Inspecting the Sample
Look for tortricids like the light brown apple moth in the calyx (end) of the
fruit. Look for hitchhikers at large in the consignment. If tortricids or
quarantine significant hitchhikers are found, REQUIRE treatment. The PPQ
identifier will select the appropriate treatment based on the host material (e.g.
