Use these procedures ONLY if the commodity is not precleared <strong>and</strong> not<br />

arriving with a completed PPQ Form 203.<br />

LBAM Host Fruit from New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />

Use these special procedures to detect various pests, including light brown<br />

apple moth (LBAM) <strong>and</strong> hitchhiking pests. LBAM host fruit require a<br />

thorough review of all required documentation. Follow any special instructions<br />

or import requirements listed in the commodity report (CIR) in FAVIR or the<br />

Country reference table in this manual.<br />

Inspectional Unit<br />

The inspectional unit is all the containers on the bill of lading to get a sample<br />

of 300 fruits.<br />

Sampling Rate<br />

R<strong>and</strong>omly select 30 boxes from throughout the consignment <strong>and</strong> inspect 10<br />

fruits from each box. If the fruit is on trays, sampling from the top tray is<br />

satisfactory.<br />

Inspecting the Sample<br />

Look for tortricids like the light brown apple moth in the calyx (end) of the<br />

fruit. Look for hitchhikers at large in the consignment. If tortricids or<br />

quarantine significant hitchhikers are found, REQUIRE treatment. The PPQ<br />

identifier will select the appropriate treatment based on the host material (e.g.<br />
