Twelve years later, American cavalrymen would aga<strong>in</strong> pass<br />

through <strong>Safwan</strong>, this time <strong>to</strong> end Husse<strong>in</strong>’s Baathist regime<br />

and beg<strong>in</strong> a comb<strong>in</strong>ation conventional war and counter <strong>in</strong>surgency<br />

that would last at least five long years. But, that was all<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> future. For now, Wilson’s troopers began tend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

equipment, clean<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>mselves up, and th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> trip<br />

home. Soon <strong>the</strong>y would discover that trip was not go<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong><br />

happen so quickly.
