The average depth <strong>of</strong> any observed ancient cultural material along <strong>the</strong> exposed cut<br />

bank extended to about 2.5 m from <strong>the</strong> present surface (Figure 5.4). Below this lens <strong>of</strong><br />

cultural material is a substratum <strong>of</strong> sedimentary deposits creat<strong>in</strong>g a vertical wall rang<strong>in</strong>g<br />

from 7 m to 12 m <strong>in</strong> height. In order to access <strong>the</strong> upper portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> embankment, I<br />

constructed a harness with a supplemental safety l<strong>in</strong>e and lowered co-director Hernández<br />

over <strong>the</strong> edge to conduct <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>il<strong>in</strong>g (Figure 5.5 and 5.6).<br />
