Unit 1 was located 3 m west <strong>of</strong> Structure 86. Three stratigraphic layers were<br />

encountered. Level I (0-20 cm) is a layer <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t to semi-compacted humus that conta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

few ceramics. Those present are small and, <strong>in</strong> most cases, diagnostically unrecognizable<br />

due to damage caused by repeated agricultural cultivation, cattle graz<strong>in</strong>g, and erosional<br />

effects. This situation is true <strong>of</strong> Level I <strong>in</strong> all test units. Levels II and III <strong>of</strong> Unit 1<br />

conta<strong>in</strong>ed substantial quantities <strong>of</strong> ceramics. At a depth <strong>of</strong> 1 m, a layer <strong>of</strong> highly<br />

compacted, culturally sterile clay was encountered. The unit conta<strong>in</strong>ed ceramics from <strong>the</strong><br />
