be <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> a layer <strong>of</strong> plant, flower, or o<strong>the</strong>r organic material be<strong>in</strong>g deposited <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

pit and <strong>the</strong>n covered with fill. Due to <strong>the</strong> weight <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ear<strong>the</strong>n fill, <strong>the</strong> organic material<br />

would be compressed and assume <strong>the</strong> shape <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pit.<br />

Offer<strong>in</strong>g III<br />

Offer<strong>in</strong>g III was observed dur<strong>in</strong>g a pedestrian survey along <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cut<br />

bank. It was recovered 1 m below <strong>the</strong> present ground surface from <strong>the</strong> cut’s pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

sou<strong>the</strong>rn portion <strong>of</strong> Field 7 (see River Cut Pr<strong>of</strong>ile 7a above), and was composed <strong>of</strong> three<br />

ceramic pieces. One was a spouted vessel (Figure 5.39), a second was a flute (Figure<br />

5.40), and <strong>the</strong> third element was an <strong>in</strong>tact composite silhouette bowl (Figures 5.41). The<br />
